If you are travelling abroad, you should take out travel health or medical insurance to help you cover your medical expenses in case of an emergency abroad. Note that medical costs and hospital care abroad can be steep and US-issued policies are generally not accepted outside the US. Medicaid and Medicare programs also do not provide coverage for medical or hospital expenses incurred outside the US.

This type of short-term insurance policy is specifically designed to provide temporary medical coverage for periods as short as five days to as long as a year, and is renewable for two to three years. Major medical insurance policies are also available for those who are travelling abroad for longer periods of time such as six months to a year. Apart from medical care, travel insurance also covers evacuation, accidental death, trip interruption and limited baggage. If you have a major medical policy, however, you have more comprehensive coverage that includes prescription drugs and wellness care.

The types of travel insurance that you can avail of include comprehensive, emergency and medical evacuation. Comprehensive temporary insurance is for those who have no insurance at all, even at home, because they’re between jobs or living and working overseas. Emergency health insurance, on the other hand, is for those who do have coverage but need a supplemental policy to cover the costs of emergency medical care abroad that are not included in their regular policies. If you are so badly hurt that you cannot travel on a regular commercial flight, a medical evacuation (medevac) policy will pay for costs such as an air ambulance and doctors’ and nurses’ fees; however, hazardous activities such as bungee jumping or extreme sports may be excluded from coverage. Other kinds of travel insurance cover the costs of trip cancellation for any reason, including illness and injury of the insured, a travelling companion or an immediate family member, and theft or damage of a vehicle that you have rented.

You can get travel insurance from some travel agencies or suppliers, who include coverage as part of the cost of the ticket. Your regular health insurance provider may also be able to provide you with a supplemental policy that includes travel insurance. There are also providers, such as travel insurance companies and direct providers of medical evacuation and emergency services, who specialize in this type of policy.

To find the best travel insurance, make sure that you are clear on exactly what coverage you need to prevent you from paying extra for something that you will not use. Then do a general search of the different short-term insurance providers and then compare quotes. But when you are asking for quotes, avoid giving out any personal information that is not directly related to your trip in order to avoid getting scammed. Apart from the quotes, also look at just what the extent of the coverage each company provides will be, particularly if you are bringing along expensive electronic devices such as a laptop or camera; make sure that the plan either reimburses the loss of these or that you can specify that you want them covered.

Travel Insurance is essential, and everybody should take a look at it, before hitting the road. The right insurance can easily spell the difference between a bargain flight and a financial disaster. On the other hand, many people buy insurance, which they do not need at all. Or, they buy insurance coverage which they already have through their credit card.

There are three general types of travel insurance

Health related insurances covering the risk of sickness or an accident on the road
Luggage insurance
Insurance covering change or cancellation penalties
I want to make a few points for each category.

Travel Health Insurance

People need coverage of medical expenses at home. On the road you need it even more. The first step before buying special health coverage for your trip is a check of the policy of your existing health insurance. On the road you need treatment costs, including expenses for hospitals, and transport back home, to be covered. Very helpful is an emergency phone number, where you can reach somebody familiar with the country you are in. He may know the right doctors, have an idea which hospitals are good, and have a relationship with them allowing for treatment without the need to pay the hospital before you are admitted.

But please check the fine print. Mental illnesses are almost always excluded from coverage. If you have an address in the country you visit, or if you are a citizen of the country you visit, coverage via travel insurance may also be declined.

Luggage Insurance

This type of travel insurance is straightforward. If your luggage gets damaged or lost during your trip, you will be refunded. But check the fine print for excluded items. Expensive gear, like computers, cameras, jewelry and obviously cash are often excluded. There may be also provisions that you cannot leave expensive items in a car, or that some things need to be kept in a safe.

Insurance Covering Change Fees

A classic form of travel insurance covers the costs of changing or canceling a trip for specific reasons. The triggers may include sickness, pregnancy, death of a family member, unexpected unemployment and more. Check the policy of any insurance for these triggers, because they are not always the same.

Before insuring against a change penalty you need to have a hard look, whether it is really helpful. The trick is that insurance premiums are determined by the price you pay for your ticket or vacation package. But, on the other hand, penalties for changing or canceling a ticket are generally lower for higher priced flights and packages. This means, if you do not take care, you may pay 50 Dollars to cover a risk of 120 Dollars in case you need to cancel or change your plan. This does not make sense.

But it is also possible that a policy of no change and no refund allowed is connected to your ticket. In this case, you may lose the whole price you paid for your package, if you become at travel time. Under such rules travel insurance covering change and cancel penalties definitively makes sense

br
Arent all travel insurance plans basically the same?
No. When you read travel insurance policy language, remember that as with any legal document, the definition of the terms is what governs the working of the policy (including payment of the claim).
I create hypothetical travel scenarios for training purposes. This includes contacting our travel insurance suppliers claims departments to see how they handle a given scenario.
A common concern of travelers are Pre-Existing Medical Conditions. In some cases, you can cancel, interrupt your trip or receive medical treatment if you (or a non-traveling family member) has a pre-existing condition. It has to do with the policys wording.
All travel insurance excludes claims due to pre-existing medical conditions. Some travel insurance plans will waive the pre-existing condition exclusion if you get your travel insurance in the first 10, 14 or 21 days after your first trip payment date (ie – before the end of these 10, 14 or 21 days).
Any payment on your trip is considered the first payment. This includes the tax you pay when you redeem frequent flyer tickets, refundable deposits or even a trip planning consultation fee if that fee is later credited toward your trip costs.
Youll protect yourself if you have to cancel or interrupt your trip because of that pre-existing medical condition. There are three primary rules to keep in mind:
You have to insure your trips full prepaid, non-refundable cost and
The person with the medical condition has to be medically stable when you get your insurance and
You must get your travel insurance in the first 10, 14 or 21 days after your first trip payment date.
You can cancel or interrupt your trip or receive medical treatment even if you have a pre-existing condition – if you follow these rules.
This seems simple enough, doesnt it?

Yes. Except there are companies that interpret this wording slightly different from what you expect. Be on the lookout for a clause in policies that states, General exclusions include any expected or foreseeable events.
What this means to you is this: If you buy a travel insurance policy that includes the words General exclusions include any expected or foreseeable events, heres what you need to do:
Ask if buying the policy in the Waiver Period really does waive this general exclusionand
Are there other conditions (ie – medically stable or covering the full trip cost) that have to be satisfied
No Surprises
If you are told, No, that wouldnt be covered because its not unforeseen, I strongly suggest you steer clear of those companies – you dont want an unexpected surprise.
We do not offer policies from companies that play this semantics game. Like you, I want to be sure a travel insurance plan will work just like I expected it to.
Stranger things have happened: for some it is a catch-cry to tell you that anything is possible. Few people have as good an understanding of just what those stranger things might be than the people who process travel insurance claims! If you have an overseas trip upcoming, you have probably purchased travel insurance against common events like losing your luggage, missing a flight, or getting ill while overseas and needing medical assistance. What you might not realize is that it isnt only the boring events that travel insurance helps you out with. The unexpected does happen – and it happens to single group more than travelers. Here we look at some of the weird and wonderful travel insurance claims from around the world.

1. Bikinis break mans nose
In Athens, a young man had to file a claim on his medical travel insurance for a broken nose. He wasnt watching where he was going and walked into a bus shelter… because his eyes were taken up with a passing group of bikini clad women. Such pleasure followed by such pain! Its like his mother was exacting revenge…

2. Free skis for lack of snow
A British lady claimed on her travel insurance after purchasing a new set of skis for a holiday, and finding that the slopes were completely dry once she arrived there. Not dry powder – just no snow. Her insurance company refunded her the cost of the skis – she mustnt have had the option to ask for a refund from the company.

3. Expensive hide and seek game paid for
A family holidaying on the beach in Cornwall had some panicked, frantic, and finally stern words with the children after they thought it would be funny to bury the br
Have you been buying travel insurance packages every time you travel without really knowing what you are actually getting? Have you ever wondered whether or not you could have got a discount when travelling with your entire family? Well, if you have answered yes to those questions, then you have come to the right page. This article is certainly for you as I will share on three basic types of insurance. You will be surprised how much you have missed out.

Now, the first insurance which Im going to share is the normal single travel insurance package which is the most common package. This package is the one that you purchase every single time you go overseas, regardless of business or pleasure. I would highly recommend this package if you are only going to travel once a year as the premium is cheap yet reliable – definitely a good choice.

The second type of travel insurance package is the annual single pass travel insurance package. This package will constantly provide coverage over a certain number of trips. The number of coverage given can be increased with a slight increase in price. This package is advisable to those who are either working overseas or studying as they require frequent coverage when travelling back and forth. It also helps to avoid the hassles in obtaining insurance each time you travel.

The last package is the multiple insurance plan. This package is catered to groups of people or family travelling together overseas. The payment made by each person is much cheaper when compared to the other types of travel insurance packages. So if you are travelling with family or friends soon, do not hesitate further and get this plan. Why pay more when you can pay less and save some money? Remember to opt for this package when travelling in a group.

These are the three basic travel insurance packages that are often obtained by travelers. There are, of course, many other various types of plans which you can easily search online. There is even a plan called personal package. This travel insurance package allows you to customize your own policy according to your liking and requirements. However, it may cost a lot more therefore I would highly recommend you to go for a pre-set package nearest to your preference.

br
br
pAnd if you have any difficulties searching for insurance companies, the easiest way to locate one is by using an online search engine. I would suggest you quickly have a look at which a target=_new href=http://www.columbustravelinsurance.org rel=nofollowTravel Insurance Package/A you would like to purchase here at his website a target=_new href=http://www.columbustravelinsurance.org rel=nofollowhttp://www.ColumbusTravelInsurance.org/A and get it, especially if you are leaving the country soon./pbr
br
Traveling can be very expensive. Most people plan their trips well in advance and save money to make the most of their trip. However, a vacation can be ruined in an instant by the unexpected. If a member of the family becomes ill, a sudden storm makes your tropical vacation impossible or theres an unexpected heat wave during your planned ski vacation, your trip may be ruined. Travel insurance can give you peace of mind that all your efforts will not be wasted.
Travel insurance covers a variety of expenses to save you from wasting the money you invested. Travel insurance covers trip cancellations and interruptions. Travel insurance can also provide you with medical coverage in case of an accident or unexpected illness. Damage to checked luggage is also covered with travel insurance. Theres no faster way to ruin a vacation by arriving only to find the airline lost your luggage entirely. Travel insurance will cover that loss so you can continue enjoying your getaway.
With the recent storm activity that has devastated popular vacation spots around the world, emergency evacuation is a concern. This can sorely strain a tight budget but travel insurance will cover those costs. Travel insurance will also often cover theft or vandalism that may occur. Leaving your hotel only to come back to find your valuables are gone can put a damper on any vacation. Travel insurance will give you the confidence that unexpected emergencies will not ruin the trip youve been planning and saving for.
The type and amount of travel insurance you will need depends on the length of stay and your location. You may not need travel insurance to cover terrorist activities when going to Florida but it may be a wise investment if you are exploring the pyramids of Egypt. Check online to compare travel insurance costs and coverage. Also, your travel agent will be able to give you valuable advice on travel insurance including which travel insurance is most popular for your type of trip. Check your credit cards as well to see if they offer travel insurance. Many major credit cards offer reduced rate travel insurance to their members.
Travel insurance is not expensive, especially compared to the cost of most vacations. You can often choose travel insurance to suit your particular needs or get all included travel insurance packages. The prices for each vary so research what your needs are and only buy the amount of travel insurance that will be necessary to cover unexpected emergencies that may occur. Do not overbuy travel insurance because it will be a waste of money.
Travel insurance can bring peace of mind to the vacationer. After saving for your trip and planning your dream vacation, you dont want to lose your investment because of an emergency thats beyond your control. Losing your belonging either by theft or accidental loss can put stress on an otherwise relaxing trip. Travel insurance will let you continue to enjoy your getaway and cover you for those unexpected problems that always occur at the most inconvenient times.

Author: Jackson Alan

Just as the title asks, “Are you sure you do not require travel insurance?” A very high percentage of people in the world today would immediately answer, “Yes, I do not require travel insurance” without giving much thought to it. The more we believe that we do not need it, the further we go away from the truth. Yes, travel insurance was not popular in the past but now, times have changed. Travel insurance as of today is officially a necessity. Not convinced? Let me tell you a couple of basic things that travel insurance will provide coverage for.

Firstly, insurance will cover for losses such as lost items as in personal belongings, luggage, cash, sudden cancellations for flight reservations and so on. You might think, “Hey, there is no way that this will happen to me as I do not misplace my things…!” Before you jump into any conclusions in your mind that you do not require insurance, do take some time to read this article and see if it makes sense. I am sure you will agree with me that unexpected events may happen as life is unpredictable and therefore certain things are just not within our control.

Let us say that you have never lost a wallet in your entire life and think that you never will. What if during your trip overseas, a robber with a gun suddenly appears and demands you to hand over every single cent you have. What will that mean for you? No more money left in a foreign country. Would you want that to happen to you? What if you are with your family and have young kids? Just imagine about how traumatic this experience will be for them. Would you want that to happen to them? Nobody would envisage such happenings so it is best to be prepared for it.

There are actually two ways you can prevent such disaster from happening. The first one is to cancel the trip and never leave the country.
Even the best planned vacations can be interrupted by glitches and emergencies. You lose your luggage. You slip, or catch a bug, and need medical treatment. These not only disrupt your itinerary, but can cost you a lot of money.
That’s where travel insurance (also called travel protection) comes in. Specially designed to address the situations and risks involved in travel, it provides coverage from the moment you leave, to the moment you return to your home.
For example, travel insurance can reimburse you for any baggage or items that you may lose during your trip. This is particularly important if you plan to buy anything of high value, such as local antiques, or are carrying very expensive jewellery or electronic equipment.
Your standard medical insurance also tends to be limited to a network area, so without travel insurance, you will have to pay for any hospitalization or medical treatments you receive while abroad. This can be very pricey, not to mention stressful: imagine being sick and broke in an unfamiliar country! If you are visiting a place where doctor’s bills and other emergency procedures are expensive, or where there are very real health risks, travel insurance is absolutely crucial.
Travel insurance is also very important if you plan to take a driving vacation. Many automobile policies will not extend coverage outside the country you live. The last thing you want to worry about is how to pay for a rental vehicle that got smashed by another driver, or take over the costs of repairing a car who you may have hit (a risk anyone takes by travelling through unfamiliar roads with unfamiliar driving rules).
Travel insurance can also provide protection against emergencies that are so specific to going abroad that they cannot be covered by your standard insurance policy. This includes trip interruption. Any fees or down payments that you may have made that would otherwise have been forfeited if you had suddenly cancelled your trip will be returned to you.
Travel protection plans can also provide assistance services like an emergency hotline and medical transportation services. This is very valuable when a crisis hits in a foreign country, where you may not speak the language or know your way around a city well enough to locate the nearest emergency facility. When you are distraught or distressed, or when time is of the essence and you need to get help right away, travel protection plans can be your safety net. You may be a stranger in a strange land, but you are not alone.
You may ask, “Why should I get travel insurance when I have really good regular insurance?” Many people are under the impression that their automobile, homeowners’ credit card and medical policies are so “extensive” that they would automatically provide protection anywhere in the world. That is not necessarily true. You need to read the fine print. If you don’t, and fail to take the additional coverage given by travel protection, then you may find out your insurance policies’ limitation the hard way: when you are caught in an emergency, and spending a large amount of money (on top of the deductibles and co-payments) with the hope of compensation very far off. Travel protection is a sure guarantee of security. Now you can take your vacation with complete peace of mind?and isn’t that what vacations are about?
